One must remember the mantra of those two (Doepfer and to a certain extent, Analogue Systems although there are instances when AS doesn't). They make for the large part single channel modules that do one thing and one thing only. Doepfer has some duals (but of explicite single function operations), and AS has a combined noise/random, trigger modifier module. By doing this, they make modules that are affordable. This puts their boxes in the hands of more people, which is good for the art. They have their place in the food chain. That being said however, some of the offerings from both a a little lack-luster, or better put, the one thing they are assigned to do is lame. The Doepfer Signal Processor is a joke as far as it's depth of effect. I would have never of released this. The Analogue Systems Comb filter also is a bit wack, but they are saved in my book by making EXCELLENT oscillators and filters. But getting back to the lack of a trigger in their joysticks, I don't think there is any place on the Deopfer or AS boxes (outside of their keyboards) where you can generate a manual trigger.
