> Now you guys are spreading trash about Wiard to > another list. Shame on you. sorry for the cross-post... too many forums to cope with. Spreading trash - hardly... just a light-hearted remark for those who have been participating in a healthy and - judging by the number of posts - popular debate about the design of the Wiard. > Kirk has his own studio and record label and could be > called an independent businessman. 'independent businessman' - now that IS offensive. I actually like > his music quite a bit, and have shelled out outrageous > prices ($26.00 + each for 2 As One CD's) to buy his > music. Sorry - that's down to labels. distributors and record stores... nothing I can do about it. Glad you like my music. If you didn't like the artwork and felt like saying it on a forum that would be OK too ;-) However now I feel that I am stuck in a > position of possibly not buying anything that he > produces anymore, since he chooses to keep slandering > my friend Grant's line of synthesizers. Grant too is > an independent businessman and I would have to say > that his profit margin isn't that huge. What Grant > does is a labor of love as I imagine is the same for > Kirk. Blimey! If I had this thinned-skin attitude I'd curl up into a ball and die everytime I read a crap review of one of my records... slandering?? I just entered an ongoing debate about the design of the Wiard - a couple of people said they didn't like facia - some others said they did... I had an opinion too. I gave it. My sarcastic comment was mistakenly sent to the Serge forum - for which I apologise cos the original thread was on the Wiard list. I have read you wax > eloquant about the sound and feel of the Rhodes Piano > and the reasons you love Jazz, but your dismissal of > the Wiard seems superficial and shallow at best. I wasn't being dismissive. I entered into a debate about the visual aspect of the Wiard. Nothing else. No comments about sound or build, etc. My comment above wasn't dismissive - it was sarcastic. > thought Music was about the sound, not about whether > it's color matches your furniture or whether Celtic > heritage fit into the same world as you. From reading > your writing and listening to your music I thought you > were beyond this kind of petty behaviour and were a > person that I could look up to as an example of > success without compromise. Well I don't know now... ... sounds like a case of 'humour bypass'. I see no point in disparaging one design > for something as small as the front panel graphics. > Sound is everything, looks are nothing. If the matter were so small why was there a thread about it for me to contribute to in the first place? That thread saw more traffic to the forum than I've seen before... it obviously provokes some emotions. If looks are nothing why do manufacturers have design teams? If I was a designer I would be most offended by your comments. > None of my synths match. Get a sense of humour... and don't waste anymore time for the people on this forum doubting my integrity. I stand by my opinions re: Wiard design. I love the theory behind the modules, I'm glad guys like Grant are making these innovative synths, I would like to own one based upon the comments given to me by John McEntire about its sound, I think its a bit complex but I'm willing to learn, I DON'T happen to like the Celtic design... WHY? I dunno, but if I really gave it some thought, it would probably be something to with the context. I'm not keen on modern houses that have a faux-Tudor facia... and although I'm no design guru or student I know I don't like neo-Gothic or other movements that graft 'older' designs on to new structures that are out of context. Romanesque Town Halls, Courtrooms, etc I like, fake Medieval churches in downtown Manhattan I don't like. Its just my personal taste... Maybe this is why the Wiard design doesn't appeal to me. Serge looks like a classic design of its time - precise, later period analog design and build. Buchla too - its design, legending and terminology reflect the birth of the modular age with elements of the counter-culture into which it was born. I cannot say the Wiard will be considered 'classic' from its appearence in 20-30 yrs time. Sound-wise - hopefully... and that's the most important thing... but that's not what the original thread was about. KD
