Got a Polysix !

Got a Polysix !

2004-02-06 by gil_we

I just got a polysix and I must say it's a beautiful sounding synth,
much on the bass side ! I like it being able to make especially great
piano/organ/bass, which quite complements my Kawai SX-210 which is
not strong enough on the organ/piano type of sounds.

The first thing I noticed is that is was way out of tune, so I had a
little search here and found the great instruction page someone has
posted here and had it tuned.

Next is replacing the battery and the power supply capacitors.

My question is if by any way replacing the two large capacitors on
the powersupply (2200uF and 4700uF) can change the voltages in the
circuit and make it out of tune in any way ?.... I;m afraid that
voltage changes will make some VR's set diffenrent values making all
type of tunings changed.

Thanks

Replacing the filter caps in the power supply should not cause any change
in the voltage output -- but if it does, the powersupply trims are easy
(I'm assuming you have a meter & know how to use it).
Just be careful, working with the power supply; use caps of the same value
with the same or higher voltage rating, watch out for the polarity, and
check the power supply output before you plug in the CPU & Audio boards.

Thanks,

done that as well as replacing the battery and all works fine !

BTW, I noticed the sign "(M)" on both large original power supply
capacitors, but replaced with ones that doesn't have that sign on
them, is it OK ? I know that the "M" signs mean 20% tolerance ...

Shouldn't be a problem; newer caps are generally better quality (and
smaller!) than the ones made 20-30 years ago.
