factory sounds

2005-10-05 by meezy78

Hi,
I am trying to reset the factory sounds on my polysix. I have downloaded the data (.wav of
the original tape) from http://analog.no/ and have followed the manual to try and load
them using the tape in input. I can't get the led's to flash like the manual says and I have
tryed adjusting the volume without any luck. I have also checked that signal is coming out
of the lead connected to my computer.
I was wandering if anyone had any ideas about what I might have done wrong. I am
starting to think the "tape in" input might be faulty.

Thanks in advance,
Meezy

using these old machines liked you to tweak the "tone control" on your
little cassette recorder - turning it towards the treble - computer
soundcards tend not to have "tone" controls any more though!
Such is progress ;-)

It's possible - have someone with knowledge of electronics open the
thing up and check that the "tape in" wires are connected at both
ends and the socket is firm so that there is a good contact with both
terminals of the plug. If there's oxidization in the "tape in"
contacts, remove it. Tweak the contacts in the socket to make them
grip the plug tighter if needed. If that doesn't help, measure the
resistance of the "tape in" wires from the socket to the circuit
board to see that they are ok, and replace if needed.

Also, if you have had the old battery replaced - if not, do so
without delay to avoid leakage and circuit damage - check that all
the wires coming to the memory board (the one with the battery) are
properly connected. See Old Crow's pages at
http://www.oldcrows.net/~oldcrow/synth/korg/polysix/

The "tape in" and "tape out" work fine on my Polysix using wav files
and a laptop. It shouldn't be necessary to tweak treble or anything.
It may take some trial and error to find the proper playback volume
though. When recording from "tape out", be sure to check that the
recording level isn't too high (if it is, the recorded sound will be
distorted and won't work when you try to upload through "tape in").
