Resistor Trim Pots for Micromoog (need to find replacements)

2010-01-18 by mlcsixand78s

Hello,

I hope someone can help.

I'm in search of new replacement RESISTOR TRIM POTS for my Micromoog.
(example 1K, 10K, 100K, etc).

I have had problems tuning it and someone suggested to me a
while back (by e-mail)that replacing the trim pots should help.
I was suggested to order from some "standard" online electornics
supply store...but I forgot the name of the place.

The trim pots are the ones mounted on main board and are about
10mm x 10mm in size with a plastic tuning wheel plus 4 circuit
board mounting pins.

Any ideas?

If I recall, those are standard parts. Get the model # off of them, and
go to your local electronics place, and they should be able to
cross-reference to whatever brand they carry. Don't cheap out of them
though - get some quality ones, or you will have stability problems.
They may cost $ or $5 each for good ones.

If you don't have an electronics store nearby, look up mouser and give
them a call.

Mouser, DigiKey, Parts Express, Electronic Goldmine, etc. They all ought to have 'em.

I don't know which trimmers are being replaced but I'd say go with multi-turn trimmers as replacements.

Good call! Also, use cermet trim pots. They don't develop 'dead spots'
like carbons do.

The multi-turns take a little more time to set but are much more likely to be stable. Once set, a dot of nail polish on the adjustment screw will pretty well lock them in and it's still easy enough to break that seal when it's time to re-calibrate.
