Hello,
        This used to work just fine and then the screen went blank and 
the only sound that comes out is a loud alarm like buzz from the 
metronome speaker.  

I got the service manual and the power distribution is fine.  

Any suggestions on what to look for?

First thing to check is the internal Nicad battery. See if it has
started to leak and corrode the boards...
