Question about controlling an EMS VCS3

Question about controlling an EMS VCS3

2005-12-07 by mark10850

Hi, I have a question about what are the options for controlling an
EMS VCS3 if you don't have one of the EMS keyboards. My basic need is
to be able to play melodic phrases eith standard scaling. I have a
midi keyboard, computer plus cubase sx3 plus I have a Roland SH101.
I've assumed i would use the midi keyboard to play (or record) midi
events and send that to something like kenton midi/cv converter but
I'd like to check, particularly as I understand the EMS is not 1 volt
per octave, can the kenton handle that or will the EMS CV ins need to
be modified (I'd add that the EMS will be a new one as i'm currently
on the waiting list). I'm also wondering if i can use the keyboard via
kenton to control other parameters other than pitch and gate, is that
also possible?

Thanks in advance, Mark

hello,
as far as i know, the ems vcs3 can be controlled by
the cv of an 1volt/oct keyboard or midi-cv interface,
but it will need a small modification(ask EMS direct
for this).
as for a gate signal, for triggering the vcs3 envelope
shaper, it will need a 4volts trigger. do not use the
sh101 gate output as it is, at least, 12 volts high!
better ask EMS direct about this again. again, it will
need a small modification...
