toronto repairs

2004-01-14 by jamesguitar2000

hi everyone:
i am new to this group but def not new to collecting and playing
vintage
synths. i am looking for someone who repairs vintage keys in the
toronto area.
i know of a few and they do good work but it's sometimes hard to get
ahold of
them and def hard to nail them down to a time (i'm a touring musician
and i
use some of this stuff on the road so time is a factor). any help
would be
greatly appreciated. i do a bunch of the regular maintenance myself
but
sometimes i'm too busy to sit down and open them up. the road will do
that...
thanks in advance,
jamie

Check with Martin Larochelle at Technopolis in Montreal. I know it's not
Toronto, but perhaps he knows of service agencies around eastern Canada
as well. Here's his site:

Hope that helps,

mj

Hi, Marvin! :-D

It's ME, Dave Garfield... (WHO!?) I came to visit PAiA Electronics in
1974, just after purchasing a 2720-A with extra VCO and -13 PWM
Convertor/Sine Generator. At that time, you *were* the "Minstral
Synthesist", according to the latest catalog. We sat in that very same
tree at 1024 Wilshire Blvd. and chatted. Man, that was a Memorable day
for me, as you can tell! You gave me a HANDFUL of MPF-102s for my
Sample-Hold, to see if I could reduce the drift. Ah, well... it's been
probably too long for you to remember any of that.

GLAD to see that you've established yourself in the "Biz" on the West
Coast. I lived in Southern California (Simi Valley, Ventura County,
just outside of the San Fernando Valley) for... Gawd, 12 years or so.
Recent divorce action, and lack of capital have 'forced' me back to
Boulder, Colorado, from whence I came...

So, you know Ramona French left PAiA a few years back, right? Yeah,
she decided to spend some quality time with her family, do some of the
things that she really wanted to do, and won Second Place in the OK
State Fair for her Berry Pie! (Mmmmmmmmm! Pie! ARGHLLRHGH!) Sad to
hear of her leaving (No more mona@...), but Kudos on her!

Hope your life has gone well since our 'chance' meeting oh-so-long-ago!
Sounds like it, from what you've 'spilled' on AH. I wish for you much
continued success and prosperity... and Happiness!

Your "Minstral"-friend,
Dave Garfield - NOT the successful keyboardist...

And indeed I would encourage everyone on this list to do so. The New
Deal is a great outfit, due in no small part to Jamie's impressive
command of his rig.

...which I hope is not too broken.

There are one or two techs in _Ottawa_ that I'm aware of (Doug Meek
does some repair work for Songbird), and I fix the occasional piece on
the side, but that's probably a bit too far out of metro for you. I
can dig up the contact info if you'd like.

Regards,
Mike
