Hi from a new member.

Hi all,
I'm a new member and am glad to be here. I have a question: since alot
of the vintage gear we buy tends to come from places such as eBay,does
anyone have any good/bad/horror stories to tell about shipping
problems?
Right now I am fighting with FedEx Ground to get a Roland RS-09
delivered. Been a comedy of errors to say the least! Thanks again
and look forward to my stay here.

Hi Scott,
Thanks for the reply. I have to agree 100% about UPS when it comes
to destroying (or at least making a good attempt!)gear sent. Last
December I had a Roland JX-8P come in that looked like it had been
rolled off the truck at 55 mph.
I decided it just wasn't worth dealing with them and since the
keyboard worked,I did my best to repair the cosmetic damage. My recent
gripe with FedEx was in just trying to get the parcel delivered.
Seems from what I read others have had the same probs with FedEx
Ground.
The Roland RS-09 I was expecting did arrive in excellent shape and
looks almost mint! Regarding eBay,I have bought several items on
there with mixed results. And yeah, alot of times people are passing
off crap at way too high of prices. What amuses me is the description
that goes into many things wrong or missing then you get "Still in
really good shape!"..Laughs.

Cheers,

Check out the archives here and at Analogue Heaven for horror stories, there
are plenty.

Generally: FedEx is good, USPS is good, UPS will destroy your gear and will
do everything possible to not pay the insurance claim, or to undercut fair
market value.

YMMV...

I'vez found eBay is a really bad source for gear, since a) you can't check
the stuff out before you buy, and b) there are a lot of people out there
trying to get high dollar for junk. I'll usually spend the shipping money on
gas money instead... assuming the distance is within reason.

best,
- Scott
