I've been dicking around with a Eventide PitchFactor Harmonizer this week. The interface would intimidate a Yamaha DX programmer. The manual is about 100 pages and you really must read it to understand this nasty little box of pain.

On the bright side, the thing shifts pitch and maintains instrument timbre / modulation. (and a load of other useful pitch / delay stuff). I want to use it with Moog and wind synth. It works well with Mellotron input. I'll post a demo recording soon.

The Eventide people tried to jam all sorts of strange things into one little box. I'm sure it has lots of potential but it's going to take months of farting around to figure it out.

Don't they have an editor app for it? I have an Adrenalinn III and the thing wouldn't get used, nor would I have bought it unless there was an editor/library app for it, which just really simplifies things.

It must work differently than I imagined.

Could they be lifetime favourites because of the tron in them?

2009-12-23 by Paul Watson

Listening to AND YOU AND I by Yes and I have to say this
is my one true love song and album and will always be so.
That first wash of tron is still as fresh as it was back in the
early 70's. Its presence in the track may not be the be all
to end all but it sure does ring a few bells within... Same with
The Court of the Crimson King and Moodie Blues, Gypsy
and Nights In White Satin.

I like each song as a whole but just wondering if it's the sweetening
sounds of the mellotron that hooks you in needing more, much as the
secret herb in KFC or "X" in Coca Cola? Could mellotron be the social
drug we prefer? What part of the brain cries for more from its tones?
Is there a cure?

Merry Christmas, tronfolk!

Paul ;-)Nz
... so hoping there's more tron in '10!

Yes, Eventide have a Library Editor / Manager app. I have been using it and it does simplify managing presets. I enjoyed deleting 90 of the 100 presets. The Library Manager app does not let you adjust any of the 10 parameters within each preset. The presets are set-up using the 8 knobs on the box. That's where the fun starts.

If you are interested...Try and picture this:
There are 10 different pitch effect types.
The 8 knobs have the same function for 2 of the 10 effect types and they are labeled nicely.
For the other 8 effects, the 8 knobs have a variety of different functions, mostly not labeled.

There's a knob labelled "DEPTH / KEY" :
Sometimes it adjusts depth,
sometimes it adjusts key,
sometimes it adjusts filter,
sometimes it adjusts reverb mix,
sometimes it adjusts attack,
sometimes it adjusts modulation.

Same story for all 8 knobs. I would be lost without the "reference guide".

Paul-
No cure available. I can quit my 'tron any time I wish, but I don't want to. Ever.
It's truely hopeless. And that's good.

  Merry Christmas to all!!

Sometimes, all the equipment can get in the way of the music, I often find I have spent more time fiddling with hardware or software than playing, so it's good just to sit at the piano or if I want a different sound my Korg K61p which has 24 voices and 2 effects and that's it.

I think some of the 50's recordings sound more alive than later popular music, presumably because it was pretty much recorded live with very little messing about.

Although I still enjoy listening to progressive rock I sometimes think it's "overcooked" and can have a rather dead quality to it.
