Will ship 53 kits this week. Hopefully, you (yea, you there reading this!)
will be one of the lucky ones
getting a package soon.

new list member with 2 module suggestions

2000-11-21 by norman fay

Hello all,
I've just signed up in the last few days (should have done it
ages ago...) I have a small MOTM setup (2x VCO, 1x 440 VCF, 2x ADSR, 1x
VCA/RM, 1x sub harmonic mux, 1x patch panel) - feel free to laugh @ my
pitiful synth-power inadequacy ;) - I also have a rack w/4 blacet
modules (DS, TM, FD & KW) as well as a couple of modcan modules, a Serge
panel and a wiard "borg" filter. I've got a triple resonator on order
from MOTM right now :) All great stuff, and I feel lucky to live in
such times....
Anyway, MOTM is my main manufacturer, and here's a couple of suggestions
for modules which would suit my needs (I checked thee archives, so sorry
for any repetition/redundancy I may have missed)

1/ micro LFO - here's my ideal for an oscillator panel:
LFO (2u)/micro LFO (1u)/micro VCO (1u)/3x VCO (6u)
I figure that the current LFO could be condensed down into a 1u panel by
losing ONE feature - either the sync, the 1v/oct or the blinky light.
Check out the picture at synthtech's website, and you'll see what I mean
- move the LH block of 4 sockets above the right hand block, lose either
the LED or one socket and there you go - depending on the size of the
PCB, you might even get away with using the same one, but with some
components deleted...would it be possible to have a modulation input
which was 1v/oct at maximum depth, but could be scaled down to zreo wit
a depth pot? What the hell anyway, more synthesis power per 1" of
panel space suits me...

2/ transient generator like on EMS VCS3. This is a VERY useful little
CV generator. Controls are Attack, Hold, Decay, and Repeat (this last
one retriggers the whole thing at varying rates. I figure an MOTM
version could have the first three controls, trigger in, + and - CV outs
(like MOTM ADSR) "squared up" out, "end trigger" out (plug it into
trigger in and it retriggers itself) and possibly CV in...better still
if all this could be squeezed into 1u! This module would be able to
perform the following functions depending on how it was patched:

variable waveform LFO
pulse stream generator
trigger delay
AHR envelope

All voltage controlled, if a CV in is possible.

What do you think?

best wishes

Welcome to the list! Keep those suggestions coming. The particular
scenario you mention above isn't possible, however - that lovely
blank space above the jacks and below the knobs on the right side
can't be filled by more jacks, because the pcb is right behind it. To
get a 1U LFO, one would have to design a shorter pcb with less
circuitry, or be satisfied with a total of 4 jacks.

But that lovely space on the left side of the panel is usable. My 320
has 10 jacks there for multiples with a switch that selects either two 5
point multiples or 1 ten point. I keep popping in jacks wherever I can
find a little real estate.

Geez, doesn't sound like inadequacy to me! Welcome to the list!

Doesn't the planned Encore UEG have a re-trigger/looping function? I'm not
remeberring the details, but I do remember that concept was floated when
Tony was asking for ideas.

>AHR envelope

Tony Allgood's Oakley Dual AD/AR offers this. I'm just about to drill the
panel and mount a pair of these, wish me luck.

Sorry I've been so quiet lately... (Really, REALLY busy right now)

The UEG does have a looping function.

See http://www.encoreelectronics.com/motm/ENVGEN5a.jpg for a final version.
The sheet metal is being silkscreened this week and should be back next
week. Parts are still coming in, but this *should* be shipping just before
Xmas.

Yes, it's EXACTLY the same size as MOTM gear. It even uses the same
connectors, and has the 1/4" jacks in the same locations.
