Oh don't get too cranky now, Paul. I'd hardly call buying 14 (or 20) modules
in order to get a free MOTM-??? getting "free modules."

;)

(Imagining Paul on his front porch, yelling at the neighborhood kids to "get
the hell off my lawn!")

Just yanking chains,

David.

NEW Catalog

2000-10-26 by Paul Schreiber

OK, so that hopefully this clears matters up once and for all, I just
uploaded a NEW catalog
with clarification on the points system.

The main point is that the old limit of $190 at 14 modules was bumped to
$200 to reflect
recent price increases. Now, you can get 410 and 440 kits free.

I'm not changing policy in mid-stream: I'm just rewording my intent that
I've had all along.
I'm sorry if some folks think it's unfair not to ever get free or discounted
VCOs. Call Serge, Doepfer,
AS, or synthesizers.com and ask for free modules. While you are on the
phone, also ask for schematics.

That's very cool of you to do that. I can imagine that the "free" module
points might help to induce someone to check out MOTM, I think of them more
as icing on the cake (or Paul's way of thanking us loyal MOTM customers -- no
matter how many Stooge-like comments we make on this list). The modules and
the line as it's developing speak for themselves.

At the low prices that Paul offers these kits I do consider the points
system as getting "free modules". Ever try pricing out a module? For the
quality of components being offered, we are getting bargains.

(Speaking from 15 years experience of designing and building electronics,
some cheap, some expensive.)

RE: [motm] NEW Catalog

2000-10-27 by David Bivins

You can consider it however you want. I don't see things the same way. Paul
is not giving away modules for free. He is shipping them to people who have
already spent a minimum of $1246 ($89 x 14) as part of a customer loyalty
marketing program. When we say "free," we're talking about the cost to the
end recipient--not Paul. If Paul's losing money on this program or only
breaking even, then perhaps he feels like he's giving them away. But
speaking as someone who cashed in 14 points for a "free" module, I didn't at
any moment forget that I had already spent almost $2500 on my system at that
point.

I never said we aren't getting bargains. In fact, there are plenty of posts
of mine floating 'round the 'net in which I talk about what a great bargain
MOTM is. But I guarantee that, if you haven't bought 14 modules, kit or
otherwise, Paul's not going to send you a module for no money as a matter of
course. In other words, they're not free. They have a cost. A customer
loyalty cost that, in dollar terms, starts at $1246. And there's nothing
wrong with that.

David.
