Yes, you're correct but in this case I'm the drummer!
I hate headphones - they hurt my ears after about 1/2 hour and you can't
head bang at all!

Get better headphones!
I use a pair of AKG K240M.  They sound great and are sooooo comfortable.
You forget they are there - I can wear mine for hours on end, or at least 
until I have to take them off to pee.  (The cord doesn't reach to the 
bathroom :))  A good price is $80-90.  They are well worth it because
I have never worn a pair of <$50 headphones that didn't hurt.

You might have to secure them a little to headbang energetically though...
