OT: newbie needs a clue w/ circuit design....

2000-04-17 by jmw

Sorry for the OT post:

I need to make a circuit that will take an audio click and give me a
flashing led*. I imagine that it's some kind of amplifier but beyond that
I'm lost. Hopefully this will be fairly simple.

Considering how much everyone loves LED's on this list I figured that this
would be a good place to start.

peace,

John W

*preferably something that will fit into a small project box and run on
battery power

I whipped this up real fast, it should work if your input click audio is a
volt or more. If not you may need additional amplification on the input. A
comparator turns the audio into a pulse, which turns on the transistor to
power the led. Needs 5V to power the circuit, you could probably get away
with a wall wart transformer and a cheapo 7815 3 terminal regulator for the
power supply. I'm afraid a battery wouldn't last for the entire gig.

One other thing - if the click is super short in duration, you'd need to
stretch the input pulse, which would make it more complicated...
