MOTM

I have two Hot Springs kits that I built when they first came out. I intend
to put them into true MOTM physical format (some day... have a lot on the
table right now).

I can't guarantee that Paia hasn't changed anything since I bought mine, but
for one channel, the PCB is 3" x 3" and the reverb tanks are 3.25" x 9.25".
There are two reverb tanks per kit; they connect to the PCB with coax cable.

My intention was to mount the PCBs behind a 1u panel (I am probably going to
mount both kits into one module to make it 'dual' or 'stereo'). 

Originally I was going to put the spring tanks in an enclosure on the floor
with lines running to them, but now that I'm leaning toward angled cabinets,
there would be enough room inside along the back to house the tanks
internally. Just have to stack them (not directly--they're open on the
bottoms...would build a mini wood shelf to stack them).

Maybe putting some grounded sheet metal around them would cut down
interference from the other electronics; I'll have to play with them when
the time comes to see if it's a problem. I imagine the power supply is the
thing that would most interfere with them.

Also note that the Hot Springs reverb circuits provide straight, "wet"
reverb. I will probably put some thought into building some kind of output
mixer to mix the wet & dry signals. Should be a simple enough circuit...
haven't thought about it yet. Also haven't looked to see if there are
impedance issues. I used to run the HS's off the effects bus of my
Portastudio...may not be hot enough for direct MOTM integration (?).

That way a 1u panel will have two knobs (wet/dry per channel) and four jacks
(A & B IN & OUT). No reason to go 2u on this one since there's no way you're
going to keep the tanks directly behind the panel. Gotta mount them at least
a little bit away inside your cabinet. Unless you have a real deep cabinet
and a very wacky bracket system in mind to attach them to the front panel...
hardly seems worth the effort.

I haven't even fired these babies up in ten years; I'm just assuming they
still work! But I remember being pretty happy with them when I got them,
very smooth for spring reverb. They just sound like warm 'space' and don't
have much twang at all. I threw them in the closet once digital reverb
became affordable, but now I miss them. And good ol' spring reverb is part
of the classic analog modular sound, no?
