Really stupid question...

Really stupid question...

2000-02-29 by Aardvark1@aol.com

I'm new to modular synthesis, just started... I have just completed the
300VCO (so now I have the MOTM900 and MOTM300 ...)... I'm controlling it with
a Kenton Pro-2000 from a D-50... Works great... I even had fun using the
Kenton LFO's to modulate... What fun...

Here's my really stupid (don't laugh) question...The sound is always 'on' and
remains at the pitch of the last key pressed on the keyboard... Hmmm...
Should I assume that sound IS always being output by the 300 and that when I
build the VCA, Eg, Filters, etc I will be able to further control the sound???

Al,
Your assumptions are correct. Your oscillator is running but there is no
"envelope." So, add a 800 EG and a VCA, and you will have the minimum
required to cause the sound volume to rise and fall with the keyboard.
Those gate and triggers outs from the pro-2000 will go to the EG, the EG
will produce the voltage that will control the VCA, and the output of the
300 will go through the VCA. The sound "volume" will respond to the
A-D-S-R settings on the EG. You can adjust the VCA control so that NO
volume is heard when you are not pressing a key (and your release setting
has fully decayed). Of course, then you will want to add a filter, and EG
for the filter and ...... so the story goes.... See, your hooked.

Thanks John and Larry,

I knew this was the answer but wasn't quite sure... actually I was happy to
know that I built it correctly :-) I'm finding that MOTM modules are like
jays potato chips... 'Can't build just one' !!!

Yes, that's exactly right.
