EG / VCA combination...

EG / VCA combination...

2000-02-25 by Brousseau, Paul E (Paul)

Pardon me if this has been covered already in the recent (or not so recent)
discussion of EGs, but I was thinking about this idea this morning. The
first modular I worked with was the Nord Modular, on which the VCAs are
built into EGs. I didn't even think of this as abnormal until I tried
reading directions for a patch for another system, which called for seperate
VCA and EG modules. Weird! So obviously, I'm wondering if people would
like the "new enhanced" EG module to have a simple, built in attenuator. I
think it would be a useful addition and space-saver.

Yeah, I have to agree. It seems counterintuitive to me to combine these
functions. An EG can do a lot more than control a VCA.

After all, this is a *modular* synthesizer....

For me, having the VCA integrated into the EG is confusing
;)

For me, having the VCA integrated into the EG is confusing ;) I'd rather have a
dual or quad VCA and perhaps dual EGs but the current 1U EG seems to be about the
most compact size/fuction ration possible on the MOTM.
