MOTM-650 jack washers

MOTM-650 jack washers

2006-10-22 by Richard Brewster

As Paul mentioned in his update, these are larger than the Switchcraft
washers used on other MOTM modules. The jacks are larger in diameter,
too, and take a different nut size. A slightly smaller washer, ideally
the same outer diameter as the regular washers with an inner diameter
big enough to fit the jacks, would improve the appearance of the 650.
The washer sizes are:

Switchcraft: O.D. 5/8 inch (about 16mm), I.D. 3/8 inch (about 9.5 mm)
650 washer: O.D. 18mm, I.D. 12 mm

The ideal washer would be O.D. 16 mm and I.D. 10 - 12 mm (12 is larger
than necessary). I am not sure what's the minimum to fit the jack, but
it's larger than 3/8 inch. Paul, what hole size is drilled for these
jacks? If anyone finds such a washer obtainable in the U.S. in 100
quantity I would be interested. (I imagine that Paul applied due
diligence here, but who knows what we all might find.)

Here's a list of 600 standard flat washers:

http://www.wclco.com/pdf/flatwash/fw10-25.pdf

My guess as to the 650 washer that Synth Tech supplies is: 7/16 .469
.734 .062 MS27183. Interpreting:

.469" ID x .734" OD x .062 thick.

If you look a little below this in the chart, there is one listed 7/16
.472 .625 .032 AVAILABLE. This one is just about the same Inner
Diameter, but is .625 inches O.D.. Is this what we want? It is half the
thickness. Here is the washer page:

http://www.wclco.com/Flat_Washers/Index.php

They have a $100 minimum order. How many washers you think $100 buys?

I found some washers that look pretty nice. They are just zinc plated
but not much of the washer really shows.

They are 0.470 ID x 0.656 OD x 0.030 thick

They are just slightly larger than the 112A switchcraft washers.
0.460~0.465 ID would be about the smallest you can get on these jacks
so the 0.470 fit reasonably snug.

I don't know where they came from originally but I can try and find
out. I put a photo up in the photo section. You can see some slight
scratches caused by the larger washers. They're pretty minimal unless
you get the light just right.
