Talking about racks reminded me of rack end caps. Does anyone on the list have blank Rack End Caps he/she would like to sell? I would like to buy 8 blank ones. If so let me know! Thanks, Ithai.

Time for another stooge update, I guess. Paul H is at home and recovering very slowly. He is still unable to work and the prognosis for a return date is uncertain. Paul's cousin Rick is now handling the family business that has been providing the manpower to support the stooge business. You may recall that on the weekend Larry died, we were discussing ending it all as it was just becoming more than we could handle. Another problem that hit us at the same time was that most of our vendors shut down, sold their companies, raised their prices, took a rocket ship to Mars, or some other @#$% thing. Paul's access to manpower and company infrastructure seemed to be the rescue that I needed to keep it all going after Larry passed. Unfortunately, Rick has all he can handle just stepping into Paul's CEO shoes of the family business. He has indicated to me that he can't spare time and manpower for Stooge Industries any more. So it is looking to me like it's time to wind it all down. Unless I can get Rick to agree to continue ordering and selling products that we DO have suppliers for, we will probably sell the remaining stock on hand and fold it up. I would love to do panels (and end caps) again, but people have become used to the brackets. I don't know if anyone would be interested in the one without the other, so I'm not feeling highly motivated to beat the bushes for a new panel vendor and a new bracket vendor and a new flat rail vendor, especially if I would have to go back to doing everything from my basement. I need to have a conversation with Rick to nail everything down for sure, then I'll have an official announcement for the list. Moe --- In motm@yahoogroups.com, Koos Fockens <torikoos@...> wrote:

aw... it's a sad day, and dealing the stooges past & present has always been a joy i'd be very sorry to see the end of stooge industries can i suggest one last panel run ? a last call if you will - no rush - just plenty of time for everyone to sort out their needs i'd even suggest a premium if need be - to make it worth your time or for a little extra pin money for an intern at paul h's place cheers paul On 23 May 2006, at 18:54, mate_stubb wrote: > Time for another stooge update, I guess. > > Paul H is at home and recovering very slowly. Time for another stooge update, I guess.
Paul H is at home and recovering very slowly. He is still unable to
work and the prognosis for a return date is uncertain.
Paul's cousin Rick is now handling the family business that has been
providing the manpower to support the stooge business. You may recall
that on the weekend Larry died, we were discussing ending it all as it
was just becoming more than we could handle. Another problem that hit
us at the same time was that most of our vendors shut down, sold their
companies, raised their prices, took a rocket ship to Mars, or some
other @#$% thing.
Paul's access to manpower and company infrastructure seemed to be the
rescue that I needed to keep it all going after Larry passed.
Unfortunately, Rick has all he can handle just stepping into Paul's
CEO shoes of the family business. He has indicated to me that he can't
spare time and manpower for Stooge Industries any more.
So it is looking to me like it's time to wind it all down. Unless I
can get Rick to agree to continue ordering and selling products that
we DO have suppliers for, we will probably sell the remaining stock on
hand and fold it up.
I would love to do panels (and end caps) again, but people have become
used to the brackets. I don't know if anyone would be interested in
the one without the other, so I'm not feeling highly motivated to beat
the bushes for a new panel vendor and a new bracket vendor and a new
flat rail vendor, especially if I would have to go back to doing
everything from my basement.
I need to have a conversation with Rick to nail everything down for
sure, then I'll have an official announcement for the list.

I too worry about the brackets. A possible solution: You can get precut stainless steel from here: http://www.metalexpress.net/ A 5.5 inch x 6 inch 22 ga piece, about 4 pot short bracket size, is $2.51 each in quantity 10. You have to drill and bend though. You can ge a small brake for bending from this place, look for the 18 inch version: http://www.micro-mark.com/ A drill press is also recommended. I already have one for panel drilling. John Loffink The Microtonal Synthesis Web Site http://www.microtonal-synthesis.com The Wavemakers Synthesizer Web Site http://www.wavemakers-synth.com

If a side venture makes you hate the day you were born, it is probably not a venture you should be into! I, speaking only for myself, would like to see Stooge keep doing: 1.- panels (but I can live with FPE) 2.- brackets (I know of no alternative) 3.- cables (but I have lots already....) So really, if you cannot make this work, I need to find a way to make brackets. Am I completely off my nut or would I just need a drill press, a shear and a brake to fab 'em myself? _____

I'm sad to hear this, and much sadder about the personal tragedies which led up to it. Moe, thanks for all your help over the years. We can all understand why you need to wind it down, if you do. Paul H, thanks for all your help too, and I hope you make a full and speedy recovery. Larry, we miss you and will always be grateful. skw

Very sad indeed! Scott put it exactly right! Our 4 month old son loves to play with the stooge cables that usually are lying on the sofa (they make this wonderful cling-cling noise when nudged). And whenever he plays with them I get this cramp in my stomach - I received my last batch of cables from Larry just a week before his tragic accident. Thanks so much for your efforts Moe! And Best Wishes for Paul H.! Dino --- Scott K Warren <scott@...> wrote: > I'm sad to hear this, and much sadder about the > personal tragedies > which led up to it. The flat rails are priceless! I can make my own brackets and cables. I did a FrontPanelExpress design complete with threaded holes and countersunk mounting. Ouch - very expensive! I have made my own flatrails in the past and the issue was precision location of the holes. I did a second flatrail design with only the holes since it is easy to tap the threads and countersink the mounting holes. In a natural aluminum 3 mm rail, the cost is still $18.60. However, it drops to $13.02 in a quantity of 20 or more. This might be feasible for a combined order. I suppose the other option is just to buy rack mounting strips and cut them to fit.
