[motm] dual-ganged log pots?
2006-01-12 by Scott K Warren
Does anyone have a recommendation for sourcing dual log pots of MOTM quality for use as audio input attenuators? I searched the archives and this was addressed, but several years ago and without a "final answer". I know Bourns lists dual-ganged audio taper in the MOTM flavor (91A2) but I've only been able to find them up to 10K ohms (at Newark). I'm just a software guy but good practice seems to be to use 25K - 100K ohm pots for audio inputs. I got a couple of the Bourns 10K duals anyway. Can I use them directly at the input to an amplifier for line-level stereo signals, or do I need to put some kind of buffers in front of them for higher input impedance? Or use cheaper pots in a more appropriate value? (These are for external inputs to my synth, so the output from any random piece of audio equipment might be plugged into them.) Thanks, skw
