480 ups:
It's another great MOTM filter, smooth like butter, makes your patches sing.

480 downs:
It can be too smooth. It doesn't have much grit and grime. It doesn't
oscillate with maximum resonance (same as the original yamaha design
which it emulates, not a defect in the MOTM product).

510 ups:
It can destroy any signal going into it. Think photon torpedoes at
close range. Fabulous at mangling any waveform.

510 downs:
It takes some time to learn it. It's rarely ever smooth. Reminds me
of being tied up with rope and dragged behind a fast moving vehicle
on a gravel road.

I'd sum up it up as: do you want to be nasty or nice?

Nice = 480
Nasty = 510

Here is my logical, concise and measured response to the question at hand:

The 510 is the bomb!

That is the end of my mature response.

Well, it's sort of like comparing apples and oranges to compare those two,
but I built a 480 recently and I really like it. It may even become my
favorite MOTM filter, and I have the 410 (with a second waiting to be
built), 420, two 440s, and a 490. The 480 has a very nice sound and its
dual-mode nature makes it quite flexible.

OTOH I've never used a 510.
