MOTM joystick interface?

MOTM joystick interface?

2004-06-15 by ivancu@aol.com

I seem to remember discussion about a MOTM joystick interface, where you could plug an old-style PC joystick into a front-panel D-sub jack. Is this module still planned?

Paul gave me that project. It got bogged down with work on the Miniwave CV
control for the PROM expander and such. A basic joystick interface is the
ultimate in simplicity. I was planning something more "MOTM-like" This job
thing keeps getting in my way of synth projects. Sigh...

Actually, I am not much on the overall idea of the plug in joystick. I like
the idea of something on a panel. But, the interface could be made with the
sub D on the front and a header on the back. :)

Er...except that wouldn't be very ergonomic.

Joysticks, controllers...

Is it finally time for a MOTM keyboard?

Not in my lifetime. There's this *new* technology, called MIDI-CV converters.
Look into it :)

I like that idea too. I've collected a few of the CH joysticks and would like to be able to plug them in the front.

Thanks Larry!

My two cents here: I think a joystick would be more useful if were not panel
mounted -- I'm not saying having one is a bad idea but (even for keyboard
players -- no, especially for keyboard players) having a free standing one which
could be placed to the left of a keyboard (or anywhere else) would be much
handier.

I think that is also the consensus of most people John. I think having the front sub-D connector is essential. I just thought having a PCB mounted header would be cool to for the minority of Stooges like me that have plans for a couple of strategically mounted panel sticks.

I would really dig the plug in joystick interface, having bought something
like 10 PCjr joysticks a few years ago. I currently have 2 mounted on a
piece of wood, permanently wired to a super ghetto interface. I think a
remote joystick is much more ergonimic than a panel mount.

After my grandson decided the ribbon controller I built was "too big"
(what is wrong with kids these day?), I built a simple dual modulator
control for him. It's a small plastic box with two x-y joysticks
controlling two XR2206 function generators AM and FM inputs. Both
outputs are buffered.

Anyone want cheap joysticks? I had to buy some 25 or so...$1 each.
