Hi Paul,

I couldn't find a UK supplier of vactrols and I spent some time looking.
I ended up ordering some from a well known US supplier, however I
strongly recommend that you try and find a friendly list member who is
prepared to buy then for you and ship them to you in a jiffy bag.

My 20 Vactrols were wrapped in plastic envelopes wrapped in packing
paper and sealed in a brick sized box, itself wrapped in plenty of packing
paper and sealed in a large cardboard box 1lb15oz!!!.
28.75USD shipping!!!!
Parcel Force charged me 15UKP for customs clearance fee on top of
the VAT and import duty because of its nature and size.

I went ape at the electronics supplier to no avail. I can only guess
the packing dept were having a laugh.

regards..

hello again...

i tried perkins elmer (a manufacturer) to see if i could get hold of some,
but they refered to to their German office, however, i did notice that Tube
Amp Doctor (the european distributor for Accutronics) had them listed as a
new product for November...
http://tubeampdoctor.chw-computer.net/

TAD also list those old Bulgin mains connectors that you can't seem to get
any more (cos they're illegal)

i'll let you all know how i get on with TAD - i'm hoping to get time to
order my reverb tanks next week

Actually, more like Fed-Ex Ground :)

I ordered 125 switches from Allied. They sent me 124 in 1 shipment, and *1* in another. The
switch was in a sack, then bubble-wrapped and placed in a "puffy mailer" bag. THAT was placed in
a bigger box, with kraft paper. They charged me $8.45 shipping. Allied is 2mi from my house. I
called up and bitched, got FREE shipping.

For what it's worth, www.goldmine-elec.com has
vtl5c3's for $1.49 US right now. Not in the UK, but
might make the shipping costs less painful at that
price. The other option that comes to mind is to call
Farnell. I know Newark in the US carries vactrols, so
maybe Newark (a branch of Farnell) will ship them over
at no extra charge. It works going the other way, so
it might be worth a try.
