I talked to cabinet maker's wife today. He is up and about following his surgery and ready to start cranking out cabinets. As soon as I get ALL the cables shipped out, I will go take the prototype cabinet he made back over to his house and critique good and bad. I will then ask him to start getting serious about a price. Chris, these are planned to come initially in 3 side heights: 1 row straight 2 row straight 2 row slant The latter two being identical in height /depth profile to the NAMM cabinets. The width will be user selectable too. My initial thoughts were 18U, 24U, and 30U wide. However, I am willing to listen to reasonable requests for different sized. I wanted multiples of my flat rails (6U) 12U seems rack size almost, so I was going to nix that size. Larry

I did go see the cabinet maker a few days ago like I said I would he had the first lower slant prototype cabinet finished. I was VERY pleased. I told him to go ahead and proceed with production of four 24U wide units to match up with the 4 straight cabinets I have already so I can start getting some shipping behind me. Then, I plan to keep him on slant cabinets until I have enough for everyone that wanted one. After that, we will go back to making straight cabinets. Seems like most everyone wants their slant cabinet first. The price for a 2 row, 24U slant cabinet kit will be $325 plus shipping just as we discussed before. No, I do not know what shipping is going to cost yet. I have to get a couple shipped before I have firm figures on that. That was the good news. Now, there is some bad news for those that want cabinets wider than 24U. The first bad news is the cabinet maker does not want to make them. He says that cutting the bottom 24U wide was about as big as he wanted to go. I begged and pleaded. He said OK, BUT, he wants $100 more each for slant cabinets wider than 24U. I did not think to ask about any increased price for wider than 24U straight cabinets. But, I will next time I see him. Plus I see that wider than 24U is going to be more difficult (translate more expensive) to ship. :( So, if your original note to me was for something wider than 24U (like 27U or 30U), then you need to examine your heart and wallet and decide whether you want to: 1 - go with 24U for the good price 2 - flaunt your cash and go wide 3 - tell me to piss off and find another source for cabinets I am very hopeful that right after I finish taking the cable orders, I will be able to start ship the first 8 cabinets. This is not going nearly as fast as I had hoped. But, I am now working on cabinet maker # 3. And, I am not going to break in another one. So, when this one gives out, so will my attempts to supply cabinets. Thanks for your patience Larry
