I got into this same argument with someone else. Color for length just gives you a messy rainbow jumble of cables in a patch. Color for signal type can be more useful. I use red for audio and blue for control. I suppose if I wanted I could also use yellow for gates/triggers/clocks. This better allows one to look at a patched up synth and see what's going on. I can trace the audio signal for instance by just looking at the red cables. -Elhardt
