RE: Am I high?

Well, I don't have a 300, but it has multiple waveshape outputs, correct? So
if you had a voltage-controlled mixer, you could use amplitude modulation
for VC waveshaping of sorts, yes?

<just read the AM section in the Digisound manual>

BTW--concerning patches, I really like the Digisound model, and it's
dead-easy to duplicate in Visio or any other flow-charting software.

Am I high?

1999-08-19 by hodad1@xxxxxxxxxx.xxx

Last night as I was playing w/ my Micromoog & MOtm 420, getting all sorts of
strange things happening using a feedback loop, I got to thinking. The
micro has a pot on it that you turn
to vary osc waveshape. & I have found that with some of the things you can
do w/ the micro
& various outboard gear, waveshape has a big & often surprising effect on
the
final sound.

So here's my thought: voltage controlled waveshape. You could vary
waveshape w/ an
eg or whatever. I am guessing this has been done before, but I'm not that
wise to the ways
of analogue. Also, I'm guessing I'll bee able to do it somehow or other
when I get around to getting an MOTM300. Yes?

I got your voltage controllerd waveshape right here:

www.synthtech.com/news

look at the MOTM-320 VCLFO.

Being not as smart as I should be, how far in the audio range is 1200 hz?
What I guess
I'm wondering is could it be used as a vco?

About 2 octaves above middle C.

It is a crappy VCO (rather on purpose :) )

No high-freq track, no matched transistors. Quite crappy.

So is this just a crappy vco on the Schreiber Scale, or would it also be
crappy for those
of us who scratch our heads(or tails) & say "Duh, sounds good to me." ?

So I have to ask: why would one design an lfo to be a crappy vco?
Does it make a better lfo that way? Is it a matter of cost? Or what?

Still high, still dry (no spit from the sky yet)

Re: Am I high?

I'm thinking that the 320 may be useful (by which I mean stable) as a drone
oscillator, since I seem to remember someone on the DIY list saying the
matched pair was to keep the scale accurate, but the pitch would be stable
regardless.

But I do like your question, since it implies that while we all look forward
to a module Paul calls "great," many of us will still beg him to release
modules that he can't get to work "properly."
