You can buy the sets of their black screws with nylon washers at Guitar Center and pro audio stores. These are high-quality screws and washers. Ivan

# 10/32 I have found the black ones with Hex heads at both Lowes and Furrows. They are a bit pricey this way. But, its fine if you only need a few in a hurry Larry H

I also have a bunch of screws that came with various racks from various manufactures including Mid Atlantic... They all suck. They suck because they are all made out of aluminum. Aluminum is soft. The racks rails are steel. So you have a soft dissimilar metal with a large weight hanging at 90 degree angle to the rotation of the threads. When you go to unscrew them, their heads snap right off. I must have had a dozen aluminum rack screws break over the years, forcing me to use a drill, extractor, vise grips, or some other tool to get them out. If the slots in the Phillips head look a little worn, I immediately throw the screw out and replace it with a new screw. I do this knowing that this new screw will eventually go bad and need to be replaced with an even newer screw. One bastard goes in and another one comes out. The only decent rack screws I have came with my Aphex Dominator II -- they're brass. If I decide to sell the Dominator, I'm keeping the screws :)

Actually, I've never seen aluminum rack screws, which would obviously be unsuitable for holding heavy equipment in a rack. I've used the Middle Atlantic screws on 84-pound Crest 8001 amps in racks on world tours and have never had a problem. Ivan

I've used them with heavy equipment as well, but the screw I have fromMid Atlantic are definitely not steel. Maybe they sell two kinds of screws. Can you pick them up with a magnet?? If you ever get a chance, put one of the ones you have to a grinding wheel and tell me what the sparks look like.

The Middle Atlantic screws I have are definitely magnetic (I use them on my Makita and they stick to the magnetic bits) and if they get and stay wet then they rust in places where the black finish is scratched. I have seen some cheesy rack screws included with a lot of product. Even in my SKB cases (not for tour use) I don't use their screws but use the Middle Atlantic ones instead. Know what you mean about the brass screws though; they're great, but hard to find. Ivan
