If it is like other reel to reel recorders, then it may be an internal belt that slipped off. I don't know if they can break too. I don't know whether you remove the back screws and/or the side screws. I seem to remember at one point removing the back screws to solve a connector ground disconnection, but when removing the back of the case, there were so many circuit boards flopping around that I didn't think I would get it closed back up properly, so be careful and remove the case slowly. -Elhardt
