Just wanted to throw in here that I use two ART Levelars on almost everything. I use them to tame analog kicks and other sharp, percussive sounds, often with the FR777, and quite a bit on MOTM outputs. It's easy to get a relatively transparent setting (for limiting) or something much more severe. I think it complements anything coming out of my modular quite well. I often forget I'm using them until I need to squash a signal a little more! I haven't used them (intentionally at least) for distortion. Yet. :) Zzounds.com was blowing them out for $69 awhile back. Then they took down the special, but when I e-mailed them (a couple of months ago), they said they would still sell them at that price. They're worth the money, in my opinion.
