The Wacky prices are actually very low!  I don't know that you can make your own
cables with similar quality cable and jacks on your own.  I have found the Wacky
cables to be a very good value.  If you don't care as much about the quality, then
go to Mars or Guitar Center and pick up some packs of 1' and 3' Hosa patch cables. 
They work OK but will wear out sooner.  Again, they are pretty cheap unless you are
going to be buying serious amounts of bulk cable and plugs.
