Re: Logo try #2

2008-12-10 by djxpat

Actually, I like #2 best, then #1. I'm not so into the all lower case
lettering for Synthesis Technologies. This is the graphic desinger in
me speaking. I'm glad your designer included a smaller verion of each
because it shows you where the text breaks up or chunks up. At the TV
station, we always walked across the room to judge our work, to see
if you could still recognize what you were aiming for on a small
screen from far away. Could you still read it, did it stand out or
blend in appropriately, etc. Even though font #2 is like a gimmicky
font you'd download from 1001 free fonts, it works well for logos.
It's a little retro, a little modern, and a touch foreign. Kind of
2001-ish, 60's futurism while grounded enough to not look like it's
an old bi-phase pulled from someone's attic. I think it gives it the
best sense of a real brand. #1 is condensed, and I've always loved
condensed fonts, though they can chunk up really easily when small,
they are much easier to place within the context of other graphics or
text. #1 is the most generic of the fonts. #3 has a military surplus
technology kind of thing going on, like you sold oscilliscopes in the
40s or 50s. it's not bad, but the font is a tad generic for my taste.
my opinion of #4 is personal. i just don't like the font. couple that
with not liking all lower case, it's my least favorite.

trying to look with a critical eye, paul. i'm hope most of you are
getting a good laugh out of my graphic designer geeky comments.
honestly, any of the logos would be fine. but since you asked, i gave
my opinions and preferences.
