Rather than deal with a matchbox, I would recommend a small mixer. Overall, you will get much more value for your money. I use a Mackie 1202 all the time. Which go for around $175 on the used market. It's a matchbox, a mic pre, a headphone amp, a mixer, a feedback control for looping effects, etc. It even does FET distortion and has a 2-band EQ. And unlike a matchbox, when used as an input for your filters and other modules, you can control the amount of gain, which is very important for what you want to do.
