These reputably will work together though I have not tried it.  The knob
looks the same as the Wiard knob but the joystick does _not_ appear to match
the Wiard joystick which has a threaded metal shaft.

Yeah, so the obvious direction I would head is to try and find a supplier of
quality joysticks (anyone? I hate those itsy bitsy ones...) and do the
Stooge Panel thing and MUUB up some MOTM version of a sexy joystick
controller.
