I have a half dozen analogue electronic and mechanical delays, and 
four digital delays (I had more but I sold them).  It sounds like you 
want a BBD, although some of the early non-DSP digital delays (such 
as the Korg SDD-2000) can produce similar effects (eg. the sampling 
rate changes as the delay time is modulated).

The problem with analogue delays is that, afaik, BBD chips are no 
longer made. If the Blacet Time Machine is still available, that is 
probably your best choice.  I know nothing about the AS.   Other than 
those, you can get a used delay, but I wouldn't recommend hacking it 
up to fit MOTM format.  Not only could you run into all sorts of 
problems with adapting the power supply, getting the pots to fit, 
etc., but it would lower its resale value.
