Naw... Paul S. is much more hardcore than that.  His cables have bands of shrink-wrap...

black black red silver is a 2' cable +/- 2.4"

brown black green gold is a 105' cable +/- 63"

I swear, I've seen it with my own two eyes!

But what we really wanted to know is - do you use the resistor color 
codes?  So like, black is just a 1/4" plug with no cable attached, 
brown is 1 foot, red is 2 feet, etc.  :)
