I actually considered this, but at the time my method of patching was to
throw all my patch cables (all black cable) across my shoulder before
starting a patch, and I was always grabbing the wrong length. Since
then I've found a nice cable rack that I mounted on the side of my  
modular
and have cable lengths by position in this rack, so color coded length  
is
not as useful or necessary as it use to be, since my patch cables are
stored "mullet-style" (short in front, long in back).

However, I'm not sure I would have the discipline to choose the color
for the type of signal. What do I use when I take the audio out from
a 300 to the control in of a 700? I tend to think of everything as
control voltage until it reaches the speakers :-).
