Re: [motm] cabinets

2001-11-14 by J. Larry Hendry

OK, I will tell you what I know.
1. I mailed a rail to Paul just for testing this very feature.
He apparently has a synth.com cabinet. Paul ? Verdict?

2. According to the specifications on the synth.com cabinet you would have
exactly 3/4 inch gap on each side. JUST the right size to be filled with a
MOTM end cap. <how about that> And, the end cap hole will even line up
with the threaded hole in the flat rail. However, be aware that:

A - the end caps will be on the opposite side. So, don't get a logo cap.
It will be upside down.
B- You will have to cut off the end rail on each end top and bottom (that is
4 cuts through 1/8" x 1/2" steel) Not a problem, but you will need a nice
hack saw and some elbow grease.

Bottom line is I think it will work, but I cannot prove it. Someone ship me
a .com cabinet and I will let you know <snicker>

Well, the height is correct but the width will cause some issues or gaps.
If you
are willing to have a gap on the ends, you can fit 26U of modules. I built
a "Moog
sized" cabinet but made the sides a bit thinner to accomidate 27U of
modules. See
the files area for the diagrams/pics.

I don't know exactly how Roger does the lip of the cabinet but I know there
aren't
any rails. He just uses screws into the wood. So, I don't know exactly how
the fit
and finish for the MOTM modules may be. The face plates will probably stick
out
just a bit because of the flat rails.

I guess it all depends on your view of cost vs. time vs. appearance.
