i've had a chance to play with the UCSC system at the top of this page: http://www.siliconbreakdown.com/emumore.htm at the time, i knew absolutely nothing about subtractive synthesis and couldn't really do anything. so i asked the friend who'd got me into the lab if he could just set up a basic patch for me to play around with. he couldn't, so he got some other guy. that guy was a little more sucessful, but it wasn't until he'd dragged five "electronic music" students in that we even got a working patch, and even then they couldn't sort out any envelope. it was this experience and that machine that galvanized my resolve to learn classic synthesis. thanks to whoever posted that link. alex
