I couldn't agree more.  Perhaps we should add some advice at/to/on the 
group/mailing-list signup page to the tune of "before you post a question, 
please (a) read the documentation, (b) search the list archives, (c) 
search google, (d) then, and only then, post your question to the list."

To do less is to disrespect the list; some people know this, but others 
may not.  Their ignorance is not their fault - if we don't educate them, 
indeed, their ignorance could be our fault.
