"autowhitelisted entry expired" problem

"autowhitelisted entry expired" problem

2006-12-09 by An.H.Nguyen

I have lots of "autowhitelisted entry expired" error nowadays. This error shows up over a hundred times a minute on each server.
When this happens, the message does not deliver to incoming emails.
I have one legit email with "autowhitelisted entry expired" error since 8am today and now it's 5:40pm already still not showing up in my inbox.
Chances are that the message will never be delivered.

Does anyone know how to minimize or fix this problem?

Thanks,
An Nguyen

What are your timeout, autowhite values set to?

autowhite should be as long as or greater than your timeout setting.
Neither should be particularly short.

Thanks Phil,
Where can I check the timeout setting and what's the typical value?

I wouldn't want to be nasty, but it's a bit annoying to spend time
writing man pages if they are not readen afterward...

       timeout
is used to control how long greylist tuples are retained
in the database. Value is in seconds, except if a suffix
is given (m for minutes, h for hours, d for days).
              Default is 5 days.

By the way, all the "autowhitelisted entry expired" messages are at
LOG_INFO level. They are not error, just information.

Thanks for the info. I found that out also...
The problem I see is that one of my messages comes in with "autowhitelisted entry expired" and it does not deliever to the receipient.
Is this true every time? If they are at Log_Info level, then are you sure that these messages can be delivered all the time?
Thanks again.

That message just says an outdated autowhite entry has been removed.
That means the message will not get in because of autowhitelisting.

Therefore that message will probably end up being rejected temporarily
and added to the greylist.

I just figured it out: There is no problem with "autowhitelisted entry expired" in the log. It just indicates that an entry expires after 5 days (default time out). There's no incoming message in this case, so nothing is lost... I know it is a stupid question, but I feel good now because I asked and found the answer...
Thanks all for trying to help.

I couldn't agree more. Perhaps we should add some advice at/to/on the
group/mailing-list signup page to the tune of "before you post a question,
please (a) read the documentation, (b) search the list archives, (c)
search google, (d) then, and only then, post your question to the list."

To do less is to disrespect the list; some people know this, but others
may not. Their ignorance is not their fault - if we don't educate them,
indeed, their ignorance could be our fault.
