Until I bought an AN1X, I used the K3 for all vintage monophonic lead
sounds (sawtooth, square, sine wave kinds of things... "Tom Sawyer",
"And You and I", etc..). I also made a nice polyphonic patch for
"Subdivisions" by Rush. Now I use the AN1X a little more, because of
the on-board knobs...but I am still very happy with what the K3 can do.

I also used it quite a bit for Hammond sounds by using the additive
mode on bank 32...... The Hammonds were ok as pads when used with a
Dunlop Roto-vibe. At least for about 10 years ago. I don't use it for
these sounds anymore.

I know there was some talk about loading patch sysex files into the
computer on this list. This synth isn't as user friendly in this way as
many others I have. Do you have to load each patch separately...or can
you load the entire bank...like most other synths.

I owe someone some patches and would like to try to get this done very
soon.

Thanks,

Linda

A recent Sound on Sound magazine "Synth Secrets" article discusses
just that-- how the K3 is one of the better analogish synths for
simulating a Hammond 88 8000 000 registration.

If there's a way to dump the whole K3 bank at once, I don't know of
it. Of course, I don't have the K3 user docs. What you can do is set
up your sequencer to receive sysex data until interrupted and then
(with the K3 in the send-sysex-on-program-change mode discussed in the
other e-mails) cycle through all the patches in a bank. Each time the
patch changes, the sequencer should receive sysex bytes. If this is
transmitted to a K3/K3m, it should populate the patch bank with sounds.

Good luck,
Ben
