Find the little trap door where the memory card would
go. Pour 2.2 gallans of purified water into it. Place
on an open burner for 35 min. Now your running on
steem.

Larry -- Sorry about the poor response you've gotten from this list, although the STEEM
joke was kind of funny!

The K3 is definitely not a waste of time. People are paying lots more for stupid keyboards
like the Juno 106. The K3 verges on sounds you can get with a Waldorf Microwave with
serious analog warmth. They are also built like tanks.

Running a K3 editor on an ST emulator (under linux i presume) might be pretty fringe, but
assuming that the MIDI implementation works under STEEM I don't see why it wouldn't
work.

I have aspirations of writing a K3 editor for Mac OS X and/or Java, but that's not likely to
happen anytime real soon. -pc

I own both Juno 106 and Kawai K-3 and I can´t say that Juno 106 is
stupid... faders are really useful, even for virtual mixer control.

K3 built like tanks! You´re right!

I"m actually trying to run it on Windows. I got it from this page
here... http://planet0.planet-zero.org/wiki/index.php/k3
I do have an Atari however, i just need to get it back from a friend
=o] Which may take a while. I remember liking the K3 when i played it
10 years ago. I just got a K3m, K4 and K5000S in trade for a Korg Z1.
Though i'll probably sell the K4 as i don't have room for 3 full sized
keyboards, the other being an Ensoniq ESQ-1. But the K3m will be
staying a while =o] I'm also expecting an XD-5 soon too =o] Anyhoo,
hopefully i can get this editor running soon!!

Re: K3 Editor on ST Emulator

As I recall, it was pretty easy, I think I unzipped the editor to a
folder in the folder that Steem considers to be its hard drive. ST
apps run either in a high res mode or a low res mode and will
complain if you are in the wrong mode. Make sure you set up one of
the serial ports in STeem as a MIDI port (it is in the preferences).
Double click on the .PRG file for the Steem editor, and you should be
ready to go. Of course, set your K3 send and recieve MIDI channels to
1 for simplicity sake, make sure that Master Function 42, 44, and 45
to the maximum setting (this depends on the OS version of you K3. I
haven't used Steem in a while, but post a description of any errors
you get and i 'll try to help you out. Also, try the Atari-Midi group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/atari-midi

probably the best resource for using STeeM Engine.

The K3 is a great synth, actually. Pawn shops never pay as much as
you can get on eBay or Craigslist.

Joel.
