May I ask why you just don't load some standard percussion/drum parts and
reverse them yourself? There's a checkbox for that on each zone... I use
that quite a bit along with recycled loops.

EXS Streaming from disk.

2002-05-28 by Phil Buckle

Does anyone know when the EXS starts streaming from the hard drive? I mean
is there a sample size that has to be reached before the streaming kicks in?
Do we know when the EXS is streaming from the drive?
The reason I ask is that my samples are stored on an IDE drive hanging off a
SCSI to IDE converter card that was never designed to play back audio in
real time. I'm wondering if this is the cause of a once a day crash I've
been having with 5.1.2 and 5.1.3. Logic keeps playing after the crash until
you force quit. Never had this before.

Well, you can just turn off the streaming in the prefs...

I'll try that today but I would still like to know when the EXS is
streaming. I feel ill informed.

And I know that feeling. You may be able to find some info in whichever
download section of the E-Magic site contains the streaming extension. I
don¹t believe there was any hard data, but there is info about adjusting the
control for less or more streaming, or off altogether.

As in "do some creative manual labour"? Ahw, come on, you idiot...
What a stone-age mentality... I mean, we put people on the moon, and
you actually suggest still doing something by hand???

Well HJ,

Sasha is right, it is really easy to reverse even bunch of samples with
shortcuts in the EXS editor, but..reversing a cymbal is not what I am
looking for...;-) it does not sound the same.. as some people do not have
even an hour for creating a nice reversefx...sample CD-s are good for these
purposes!

BTW, thanks for all suggestions!

Hey Ita,

Oops... if I'd realised that you were the original poster, I would
have been a bit kinder :-). Sorry...

And of course you're right: there's nothing wrong with taking a
shortcut if you're under time-pressure or whatever. However, I
suppose you do agree that having all this gear we nowadays have,
tends to make people lazy -- not referring to you specifically, but
talking in general. "Since we can so easily do X and Y now, how come
there's no plugin that does Z also?" Sometimes we're just a bunch of
spoilt children...

Re: EXS Streaming from disk.

open up the EXS24, go to options>virtual memory tells you when
its streaming, and lets you turn it off.

Watch out though, for me it seems the VSM makes it unstable in
low memory situations. Its the only cause of crashes in v5.1.3
that ive had. But it does let me have a reasonable amount of
samples on my 256MB powerbook.... ahh well, hopefully theyll fix
it soon.
