Xtreme Analog CD

2001-11-10 by Sascha Franck

I just received my CD and I must say I'm amazed. Absolute professional
quality, nice useful sounds.
Plus there are some demo songs nicely demonstrating how to alter certain
sounds dynamically.
IMO pretty much worth the price, especially considering the fact that the
EXS is extremely CPU-friendly. If I would create similar sounds using any
softsynth(s) I would certainly run out of horsepower pretty soon.

Regards,
Sascha

Hello Sascha,

I was pretty amazed to. But with playing some EXS-instruments form
this cd my CPU indicator is going above 60% and I can here nasty
glitsches in the sound. Do you have the same? (My PC: PIII 800, CUSL2-
c 512 MB, HDSP Hammerfall Digiface card at 6 ms)

Regards,

Maarten

Do you use the 32 bit sample storage option for EXS24?

If you open the EXS intstrument editor and then look in the edit menu you
will see "preferences" and that's where this setting is made. If you have
plenty of RAM (as you do) then this option consumes more RAM but saves on
CPU as otherwise Logic has to convert all samples stored in RAM in 16 bit
or 24 bit linear format to 32 bit float format on the fly. On a big drum
kit like the Stereo Drums this can make a huge difference to the amount of
CPU resources consumed.

Of course the other things you can do are A) minimize the number of voices
for the instruments you are using and B) turn off filters which gobble CPU
cycles.

Murray

Hi Murray,

No, I didn't use it. I enabled it now, but no real improvement is
noticable. Igor wrote it's the filter. It seems the be so. When I
switch it of the CPU indicator goes down by 30 to 40 %. On some
instruments it's no problem switching it of. Other completly depends
on the filtering.

Maarten
