You've got to be kidding. Most samplers do some sort of conversion in order to read non-native formats. Even the S5000 does sample conversion of Akai discs, as does Gigasampler and the new Roland XV5080 which converts Roland's own S series library to XV series. As far as lagging notes and the such, that, like most problems, seems ti be inherent to the system it's being run, and not the software. I have experienced no such problems with EXS24. Also, bear in mind what this software does for $250. It's not an E4X Ultra and isn't priced like one.
