I imagine we'll see a very groovy update to the EXS in the future. Emagic doesn't want to relinquish the sampler coolness factor to another German company...they're too competitive for that! And like you said...they've already got some terrific in-house filter algorithms..... I think it's just a matter of time.... I agree that it's better to wait, than to learn an entirely new system, that is in its 1.00 state. EXS is pretty mature and happening now.
