Now that we're on this subject: ever since Aliasses were added to the 
OS, I've always put aliasses to my harddisks in the Apple Menu. 
Apple recommends against doing this, but it has always worked.  Sure 
beats navigating folders by doubleclick-opening them one by one. 
It's just a pity that nested menus only go 5 deep...

Taking the MIDI folder suggestion plus my own a bit further: you 
could make aliasses to all your 'important' audio-related folders 
and/or audio applications, create a new "Audio" folder in the Apple 
Menu folder (for organisational purposes), and dump all aliasses in 
there.
I've done that with all relevant apps and such, and hardly ever have 
to manually navigate my HDs anymore.
