Emu Emax SE Plus VU/Gain problem

Hi all. I just received my Emu Emax SE Plus and I'm having several issues. When I try to create a sample, I am only getting 1 or 2 bars on the meter regardless of how high the db is set, even at +40db. That was yesterday, now the bar is moving even without something in the sampling input jack. If you watch the bar it moves by itself for a distance of 3 or 4 bars and then drops back down. I am also having the the threshold line moving when set to armed, even when there is nothing coming into the sampling input. So it will trigger sample recording by itself. I appreciate your help thank you
