EMXP 2.04.1 problem?

EMXP 2.04.1 problem?

2008-01-09 by Mike

Hi All,

I'm just about to lay my hands on an Emax (version 1) and I thought
I'd prepare a few floppy disk s to use on it.

I'm trying to use EMXP, version 2.04.1 and I have the OmniFlop driver
2.01j installed (the Omniflop program appears to work fine), but when
I try and use EMXP to write an .EM1 disk image to a 720K DD floppy
disk ("Copy EMX Image File to Floppy Disk") I get the following error:

=====
                          Errorcode 167
The OmniFlop driver can not be initialised. Errorcode is 5

=====

I can't figure out what the problem is. I've tried rebooting in safe
Mode (WinXP SP2) with no luck...

Had anyone else run into problems with EMXP?

Cheers,

Mike.

you have to get a license for the omniflop emax driver. If you run Omniflop there is a box called 'license' or 'register' (can't remember exactly) click that one and select the emax driver. you'll have to fill a form and after registering you will receive a mail with the licensing code. hope this helps

Hi there,

Thanks for the response. However, I have already registered OmniFlop and
entered the license code... :-(

Error 167, code 5 is the errormessage indicating that the OmniFlop
driver has not been licensed yet for use with EMXP(N).
You don't have to get a license for EMAX disks specifically, but you
do have to ask for an EMXP license. This can be done with the already
mentioned 'get a license' button in the OmniFlop wizard.

I checked if there are some problems with the licensing procedure on
OmniFlop's server by installing EMXP and OmniFlop on a fresh PC.
The licensing worked fine, I didn't encounter any problems at all...

Did you find the problem yet ? Maybe you should retry the whole
installation procedure, step by step as it is explained in the EMXP
manual ? If the error keeps returning, you could send an e-mail to
Jason Watton or to me, mentioning the e-mail address you entered in
the online license screen...

Re: EMXP 2.04.1 problem?

2008-01-11 by Mike

Hi There,

Ah, so I have to specifically request an EMXP license?

I installed OmniFlop and then when I try and use the Emax format it
prompts me to Register Online, which I did, and entered the license
code that I receive via the automatic email from shlock.co.uk...

Perhaps I was not entering the disk format correctly in the online
form? I'll try again...

Cheers,

Mike.

Re: EMXP 2.04.1 problem?

2008-01-11 by esynthesist

You used the license procedure for the OmniFlop application itself.
If you use OmniFlop (and not EMXP) to access some exotic disktypes,
like Emax, you have to get a "disk" license in order to let OmniFlop
read and write images of those disks.
This type of license however is NOT required if you only use the
OmniFlop driver + EMXP, i.e. if you don't use the OmniFlop wizard
application.

But you need another license just for allowing EMXP to access the
OmniFlop driver. Jason of OmniFlop allows third party software (like
EMXP) to use his driver. For each third party software application
there's an access code within the omniflop driver. This access code
must be activated by each user who wants to use the third party
software. That's why you have to get the EMXP license.
In order to get this license, you have to start the OmniFlop wizard
and press immediately on the "get a license" button, then choose EMXP
(N) from the list.
It's not important to provide disklayouts in the online form at
sherlock's license website, because the EMXP license automatically
contains all disklayouts supported by EMXP (being Emax and Akai
S1000).
If you also want to read/write emax disks with OmniFlop itself (i.e.
besides using EMXP), you'll have to get an additional license for
Emax disks. Even if you already have a license for EMXP, the included
Emax support in the EMXP license is not automatically available to
the OmniFlop wizard application itself. It's only available to EMXP
itself.

In the near future I will ask Jason to make EMXP free of license, so
that you don't have to get any license anymore.

Hi again,

Right, I've got it sorted - I was just diving into OmniFlop without
RTFM properly first!

I now have it (and EMXP) working correctly!

Many thanks for your help!

Cheers,

Mike.
