I recently purchased an Emax SE/HD. It was working fine, I was able to
access sounds on hard drive upon powering up keyboard. Now, It is
stuck on 'loading software' upon powering up and will load a disk but
I can't access the hard drive. Any ideas? I'm afraid it may have been
affected by a power surge during a storm. Any ways to check it for
problems or is there a manual specifically for the SE/HD that may help
me? Thanks, Angelo

Angelo.............
If you can hear the drive running, you might try
opening the keyboard up from the bottom and pulling
off and re-seating the ribbon cables that go to the
hard drive. Emax's have a tendency to glitch in many
ways after the years simply because the connections
inside get a little funky. I've fixed a lot of
problems in the past by simply pulling and reseating
connections...sometimes chips seem to not be
connecting up with the sockets.........pushing things
together (carefully) and pulling and re-seating things
can have a dramatic effect.
Another thing that might help is that in the "special"
menu........(#9 on Emax II's)...I'm thinking Emax SE
must have this too............You will find a function
that copies your OS software from the disk that is
working for you to the hard drive itself. Once I had
to do this with an Emax II to get the hard drive to
recognize the boot command...........I'm not sure why,
but the hard drive had to be kind of rebooted in this
way to bring it back to it's
senses...................ONLY TRY THIS IF ALL OF YOUR
DATA ON THE HARD DRIVE IS BACKED UP ON DISKS, BECAUSE
THE PROCEDURE ERASES THE HARD DRIVE IN THE PROCESS (I
THINK).

As always, when going inside, stay away from the power
supply components which, if like other keyboards, etc,
can still hold voltage that can cause you harm.

Another problem is sometimes the power supply to the
drive causing malfunction due to insufficient
voltage....................
Please wait for advice from others in the group who
know far more than I do.......who by the way have
helped me many times............(Thank you all)
I hope this will help open discussion that will get
you back on track.
Good luck,
Dave

David- Thanks so much! That was the problem. I should have known that once I didn't hear the freight train rumbling of the archaic hard drive that I should start there. Cheers! -Angelo
